Selling Real Estate in the North Valley & Lake Pleasant areaLake Pleasant Area Real Estate - Peoria, Phoenix, Glendale, Surprise, Sun City, Sun City, Anthem, Lake Pleasant area!
Located a mere nine miles from downtown Phoenix, Glendale has a population of over 240,000 people and is a popular city, loved by its residents and visitors alike. When you come to Glendale, many different experiences wait for you, from a trip to the Historic District to the nightlife, nature and adventure. The NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes and NLL’s Arizona Sting play home games at the Jobing.com Arena that opened in 2003, as well as the new home of the Arizona Cardinals, who play at the new University of Phoenix Stadium. Major League Baseball also has a home here, the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers sharing a facility for spring training.
Supported by Sunset Magazine and an article in USA Today, Glendale bills itself as “Arizona’s Antique Capital,” where you can shop and find a piece of history almost anywhere in town. Another piece of history will be brought back to life soon, with an extension of the METRO light rail service planned to serve the city, just as the Phoenix Street Railway service did between 1911 and 1926. There’s a lot to see and do in Glendale and any resident would just love to show you their city, so pack a bag and come for a visit! You’ll love it so much, you’ll be planning your move before you’ve finished unpacking! History Before William J. Murphy, M.W. Kales, William A. Hancock and Clark Churchill joined forces in 1882, Glendale was little more than empty desert. But when those men came together, they brought water to that desert, leading the Arizona Canal Company project. With the help of over 200 mules and whatever machinery was handy, Murphy and the others completed the canal in May of 1885. By the late 1880’s several homesteads had begun to settle in around the canal. One of the homesteaders, William H. Bartlett, homesteaded the land that is now known as central Glendale. He started a 640 acre fruit farm, complete with 13 out buildings and a main house, named Sahuaro Ranch. More families settled in around the turn of the century and Glendale State Bank opened. Over the years, Glendale has grown to be one of the most culturally diverse cities, owing much of its heritage to the early Hispanic settlers as well as Japanese and Russian settlers who moved to Glendale from California.
